A section of personnel from the Kenya Airforce, a unit under the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have deployed to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to help with screening of passengers at the facility amid aviation workers strike.

The military officers will also help with ground flight operations at the airport.

Meanwhile, Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) Secretary General Moss Ndiema has been arrested following the chaos that marred the facility.

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has assured travelers that he situation will return to normalcy in an hour’s time.

“I am pleased to announce that the issues that we had at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport that resulted in the disruption of operations this morning have been resolved and we expect that the first flight to take off in the next hour or so,” he said.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) was forced to divert Nairobi flights that were scheduled to land at the JKIA to Mombasa after workers’ failed to report to their respective officers. 

The workers are lamenting over unfair promotions and financial mismanagement by their employer. They have vowed not to return to work until the government addresses their plight.
