A politician who has been fighting for civil rights of Kenyans was on Thursday killed by goons believed to be outlawed Mungiki during a confrontation at Club 36 opposite Nairobi Primary School.

Mr Samuel Ragira alias OCS Ragira met his death death when he allegedly exchanged with goons who have been asking for money in exchange for stalls at Club 36 market in Nairobi.

At around 5pm, Mr Ragira left popular Lazarus joint in Nairobi saying that he had received a distress call from traders who he had been protecting from alleged goons.

"Let me check on comrades. I am told those Mungiki are harassing traders for no good reason. My boys can't sleep hungry because someone is harassing traders for no good reason," Ragira reportedly said before leaving the joint.

And it's claimed that at the scene, one of the youths allegedly shot dead Mr Ragira during a confrontation at the market, killing him on the spot, with police taking his body to city mortuary.

Former University of Nairobi Sports Representative Geoffrey Mosiria, , who led irate student at City morgue, protested the murder, adding that police should take responsibility.

"He has been fighting for the rights of comrades and poor traders. He was shot by people who are not police officers. We want to know who killed him on bullet," he said.

His former colleague, Edith Nyambega, condemned the murder and demanded that the police come out clean and tell Kenyans who killed him.

She said: "Ragira was one of the people who works well with people. He was never abusive and faced situations as they were. We demand to know who killed him on bullet. I have watched his last video in pain," she said.

Kilimani OCPD Michael Muchiri told the media that he was investigating the murder, adding that he was already aware of the situation following tips by traders.

Mr Ragira, who hails from Gusii, has left behind a wife and a daughter. He contested Kilimani ward MCA seat and lost to Moses Ogeto, a relative to Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati.
