A section of Jubilee leaders from Rift Valley now claims opposition leader Raila Odinga has laid down an elaborate plan to stop Deputy President William Ruto from ascending to power.
Led by Bomet MP Christopher Langat, they alleged Raila was using some politicians from the Rift to frustrate Ruto's efforts of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Langat said Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who two weeks ago announced his interest in the presidency, was being sponsored by the ODM leader in a calculated move to split the vote-rich Kalenjin nation.
"They want to sneak in a little-known man, who rarely comes to the Senate. They will praise him and woo you to vote for him on grounds that his father has led before," the MP said as quoted by Sunday Nation.
"Not that they love him. They only want to use him to split the Kalenjin vote in favour of a certain man from the lakeside. It’s a formula for Raila to split us, so he can go through," he added.
Langat spoke during a function at Moi Sitotwet Secondary School where he was the chief guest.
Accompanied by Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot and Ainamoi MP Sylvanus Maritim, the Jubilee legislator urged residents to dismiss Moi and rally behind Ruto who has faced many challenges in his political journey including battling a serious case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague.
"I urge the Kalenjin to stick to this exceptionally strong-willed man called Ruto, who returned from the biggest court on earth. Other people will respect us if we stick together," Langat was further quoted by the daily.
