Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa’s open ‘rebellion’ against her party, ODM that has seen her gravitate to the Deputy President William Ruto’s side has rattled the Raila Odinga-led outfit.
However, the party’s move to initiate disciplinary action against her and other perceived rebels may just be the turning point in Coast politics.
So what next for Raila and his ODM party? The wait and see approach may prove decisive especially for the politically dynamic Coast region. So far, as it appears, the political future of Aisha Jumwa is pegged on Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi’s next move.
With his own future within ODM being a matter of speculation, Kingi’s next political move may shake up Coast politics and subsequently make-or-break some political careers.
For ODM, making sure that Kingi stays in ODM will no doubt secure Jumwa’s own political future as she may be forced to make a hasty retreat and rejoin ODM for fear of being crushed in the ballot.
On Saturday, Kingi warned of dire consequences if ODM goes ahead to discipline Jumwa and Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori. So what will happen if the party goes ahead with its disciplinary plans?
It will no doubt irk Kingi who may be forced to rethink his own political future. And for Jumwa, it will be a battle won.
