For 18 years, Obwocha survived with a single kidney, donated by a relative after undergoing transplant in 1999 at KNH, Private Wing.

"He was able to take care of his health; his strict diet with brown ugali and vegetables.. He loved brown porridge, ripe bananas and tea without sugar," his daughter Kang'ina Onyancha revealed.

Besides observing diet, as an athlete, Obwocha walked a long distance every morning to keep his body fit.

"He managed the condition for the past 18 years. He used to wake up early in the morning and other than the diet and medicine, he walked a lot," she added.

Just hours after attending a relative's funeral on Friday, Obwocha passed on at Nairobi Hospital, where he had been rushed after his condition deteriorated.

In 1992, he was elected as West Mugirango MP on Ford Kenya, a position he held until 2007 when he lost to Dr. James Gesami of ODM.

Until his death, he was chairman Privatisation Commission, a position he has held since 2015 when President Uhuru Kenyatta made appointments.
