This being his last term in office, President Uhuru Kenyatta is under pressure to leave a legacy.
However, in so doing he is facing a number of obstacles that keep worrying him day in day out.
a) Fight against graft
This is an issue that has raised questions and caused political divisions in the country over the past few months and the president has had to feel a pinch of the situation.
In fact, some of his close friends and relatives have been mentioned in graft scandals putting him in a rather awkward situation.
The president has, however, made it clear that everyone should carry their own cross when it comes to corruption cases and that even if someone felt he, his family or friends were involved in corruption then they should report to relevant authorities.
b) Equally distributing development programmes
Some areas feel neglected in terms of allocation of funds to channel development programmes.
Recently Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria made allegations, which he begged to withdraw later, that the president had forgotten his home turf, central Kenya, in his development agenda.
This is just an indication that each region wants maximum attention and the president is up to the task of ensuring all areas are attended to accordingly.
c) Including all his allies in government
Recently, a section of legislators from western Kenya hit out at the president for sacking former sports CS Rashid Echesa.
They insisted that the position should have been given to another figure from the Mulembe region.
The slots available in government are too few to accommodate everybody from every region.
The president has been having challenges satisfying each region of the country with state appointments.
d) Referendum saga
Despite the fact that the president has not made clear which parts of the constitution he wants to be amended but he has suggested that the country needs a referendum prior to 2022.
Opposition chief Raila Odinga wants amendments that will create more positions in government including a powerful prime minister, however, the Deputy President William Ruto has openly dismissed that.
The president is definitely left between a rock and a hard place on this issue.
Most of his confidants have disagreed about the referendum and he has to make a decision that will satisfy both sides.
