Migori Governor Okoth Obado was arrested by detectives on Friday morning over the gruesome murder of Sharon Otieno.
The Rongo University student's lifeless body was retrieved from Kodera forest a fortnight ago with Obado's close aides linked to the murder.
Homicide detectives are currently grilling Obado after at least five people closely connected to him were apprehended over the murder.
Last week, Obado wrote statement over Sharon's murder in Kisumu with sources indicating that he admitted having had a relationship with the slain student.
DNA test done by investigators revealed that Sharon's unborn baby was fathered by the governor.
Michael Oyamo, his aide along with Lawrence Mula, a former MCA were arrested and are still in police custody in connection with the murder.
Also arrested are his other aide Caspal Obiero, bodyguard Elvis Omondi and Mr. Jackson Otieno, who is believed to have been the driver of the vehicle that allegedly used to abduct Ms. Otieno and journalist Barack Oduor.
His wife, Hellen Obado, was also set for interrogation but detectives postponed the move due to 'emergence of new evidence'.
It is not clear whether Obado will remain in custody but the revelation that he was the father of the unborn child makes him a person of interest.
Sharon's mother, Melida Auma, insisted that Obado had tried to ovrrpower her daughter to terminate pregnancy but in vain.
