Four people are nursing serious injuries at the Molo sub-county hospital and at St Joseph's Nursing Home following an accident that involved a canter and a trailer at Kibunja along Salgaa stretch on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to witnesses, the FH canter that was coming from Nakuru loaded with sand was overtaking before it lost control and rammed into an oncoming trailer that was loaded with maize.
Residents called on the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to step in and ensure the stretch is expanded.
“We are calling on the government and KENHA to ensure this stretch is expanded to avert similar accidents,” a resident said.
Confirming the incident, Molo traffic commander Moses Nderitu said the accident was caused by brakes failure.
“The occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Molo sub-county Hospital and St.Josephs Nursing Home in Molo,” Nderitu said.
He called on motorists using the highway to be careful and observe all traffic rules.
