A University lecturer has named rooms in his newly built hotel after some of the world's renowned freedom fighters and anti-colonial rule architects.
Prof Makau Mutua, it emerged on Thursday, has named rooms in his Kitui Villa hotel after American and African freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives over freedom and minority mistreatment.
The hotel was officially opened on Tuesday by opposition chief Raila Odinga during a ceremony also attended by NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, former Machakos gubernatorial aspirant and former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti and Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Prof Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni).
The hotel rooms, among other freedom icons are named after former Tanzania President Dr Julius Nyerere, former Democratic Republic of Congo Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba, Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion architect Dedan Kimathi, American black human rights activist Malcom X and Harriet Tubman, another black American human rights fighter.
The hotel also has photos of former Kenya Vice President and father to opposition chief Raila Odinga the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and former American black rights champion Martin Luther King Junior.
Mutua said in a tweet on Thursday that the move in the branding is to remember the men and women who fought against minority marginalisation as well as recognition of equal rights irrespective of colour, race, gender or nationality.
