As the debate on MPs increasing their allowances gains momentum, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has defended the move.
He says that it will amount to discrimination if the MPs will be the only state officers denied house allowances.
"It is not fair to discriminate against a section of state officers yet the rest are being paid," said Ole Kina during an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday.
He, however, noted should MPs be denied the house allowance, then, it will only be fair of the privilege is scrapped across the board.
"I drive from Narok to come and work for the people of Kenya and sometimes I’m stuck on the highway for close to six hours. If you are going to do away with the housing allowance, then do it across the board. Do not be selective," he added.
The move by MPs to add Sh250,000 per month as house allowances which took effect this month has attracted mixed reactions from leaders and Kenyans with former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama opposing the increment.
COTU boss Francis Atwoli defended the MPs saying that Kenyans are the reason why MPs increase their salaries terming Kenya as a handout nation.
Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi supported the MPs salary increment despite the Salaries and Remuneration Commission chairperson Lyn Mengich saying they will take action over the move.
