Angry traders operating at Marani market in Kisii county have slammed governor James Ongwae for allegedly ignoring them.
The traders led by Mary Mayaka claimed that Ongwae has been missing in action despite him promising to improve the state of the market during the 2017 campaigns.
"Ongwae promised to ensure toilets are constructed in the market, modern business stalls for traders and drainage system improved. We voted for him and won since then he has done nothing to improve the state of the market. Traders pay taxes to fill some individuals' stomachs while we are suffering," said Mayaka.
According to Mayaka, traders are being burnt daily by the scorching sun while Governor Ongwae is driving luxurious cars.
"No one is going to pay tax to Ongwae's government. Traders have agreed to remove the iron-sheets used to cover the one toilet in the market so that the county can construct new toilets," she added.
Zachary Kirera, also a trader, protested Ongwae's sluggishness noting that despite the fact that he hails from the region, he has neglected his own home area.
Kirera noted that traders at the market have nothing to smile about "because Ongwae has taken his own home area for granted."
