A woman is nursing serious injuries at the Migori County Referral Hospital after surviving a lynching attempt by an irate mob on Sunday.
The woman who has been identified only as Quinter landed in trouble with locals after allegedly stabbing her sister-in-law to death, over allegations that the deceased badmouthed her.
According to witnesses, Quinter pounced on Caroline Achieng, who was also her housemate and allegedly killed her, accusing her of gossiping about her past marriage.
They claimed that Quinter became angry after a neighbour notified her that Caroline was speaking about her in church the previous day.
"They stayed together at Onyinjo rental houses in Migori town, but differed with Quinter complaining to me that Caroline has been telling other women about how she separated with her husband who is her (Caroline’s) brother,” Peter Opiyo, brother to the deceased, told the Standard.
Opiyo added that he attempted to reconcile the two, which appeared to bear fruits, only to later hear that Quinter had allegedly killed Caroline.
The incident was confirmed by county police boss Joseph Nthenge, who said that his officers rescued the said attacker from the irate mob that was baying for her blood.
Witnesses claimed that the accused attacked the deceased with a knife and stabbed her several times, killing her on the spot.
