A Kisumu man donning a suit on Monday evening left a busy Oginga Odinga Street in shock after he reportedly pickpocketed a phone from an unsuspecting Kenya Certified Accounts (KCA) University female student who was heading to class.
The man is reported to have walked hurriedly out of the elevator towards the Mega Plaza exit after he noticed that the female student had actually seen him pick the phone.
On noticing this, the student, identified as simply Effie shouted, “He is a thief. He has my phone in his pockets. Help, help!”
Surprised, a section of the residents watched with their eyes on the stalk unable to understand if the man was really the one who the student was shouting about.
On hearing the shouts, the guards at the exit immediately reprimanded the man before the police officers who were guarding a nearby Equity Bank arrested him a moments later.
However, he surprisingly denied pickpocketing the Samsung phone even after it was found in his coat.
“I don’t pickpocket. This is not my phone…forgive me,” he told police officers while trembling.
The unidentified man was lucky to escape the wrath of the public after the officers strictly denied anyone a chance to touch him.
Witnesses are of the thought he most likely dresses in suits while pick-pocketing to make it difficult for the victims to suspect or recognize him.
