World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Kane, born Glenn Jacobs, has been elected as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, in the United States.
The Big Red Machine garnered 66 per cent of the vote to defeat fellow candidate Democrat Linda Haney.
During his campaign, Kane said if elected, he will focus on reducing taxes, providing new jobs within the local area and providing a renewed focus on the quality of education.
“People were willing to vote for me and tie their future to me, which is humbling and also a huge responsibility. I always believed I could win the election.”
“I knew that once people got to meet me and know me, that I could prove myself. This idea that only a chosen few elites have the ability to make decisions is foreign to me. I wanted to prove to folks that someone like me belonged in office as much as anyone else,” said Jacobs as quoted by si.com.
The 51-year-old Republican candidate holds an English degree from Truman State University and becomes the second WWE star to become mayor in the US after Jesse Ventura.
Kane is still an active employee of the WWE and has not ruled out being in the ring while serving his mayoral term.
Kane is known for wrestling with The Undertaker, and together they are known as the Brothers of Destruction.
