This has led to the rise of scammers and fraudsters who prey on unsuspecting Kenyans by use dubious ways to siphon their money from their mobile accounts.Popularly known as ‘Confirm’ in Nakuru, they seem to have mastered the art of conmen. To make their job a success, they team up to both confuse and convince their victims into unknowingly surrender their money to their (the fraudsters’) accounts. This involves the use of fake mobile money messages purported to be coming from your service provider. After the message reaches you, notifying you that you have received money, you get a call purporting to have sent you the money by mistake, the first request being to send it back.Should you cooperate, you will have sent them your own money as no money was sent to you.In the event that you give them a cold shoulder, according to a number of victims, they link you up to another fraudster purporting to be a customer care agent from your service provider.Under the fake name of Bernard Onyango and Danson Kaggia, they direct you to a nearby money transfer agent shop, claiming to have blocked your line for keeping stolen funds.‘’I was recently robbed by an alleged customer care person from my service provider named Danson Kaggia, I followed all his directives and ended up with an empty account,’’ Isaac Owira.‘’He said that they have locked my account and I can neither send nor receive money unless it is unlocked, I cooperated in fear of having it locked but instead ended up with an empty account,’’ he added.Another victim, Solomon Rua, a cobbler, narrated how one Benard Onyango swindled both him and a money transfer agent.‘’When I refused to return the money, he threatened to report me to my service provider and minutes later, one Benard Onyango called, purporting to be an agent from the company,’’ he said.‘’He directed me to the nearby money transfer shop and spoke for several minutes with the agent. All this time, the agent seemed very scared and followed his instructions.''The next thing I knew is that we had both lost our money to him. After that, he was no longer reachable,'' he said.#MyLifestyle #hivisasaoriginal
