Machakos county governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that he doesn't support the plan to increase salaries and packages for Members of Parliament.
He speaking today in Machakos during an event where he was installed as patron for Machakos scouts council.
Mutua has said that Kenya's economy is not doing well and Kenyans are overburdened by heavy taxation.
"We have a massive unemployment low circulation of money and Kenyans feeling overburdened by heavy taxation," Mutua said
The governor noted that indeed everyone from casual worker to the president needs a pay rise but it has to be matched by the economy.
"Let's first grow our economy because as it is, I believe civil servants are overpaid in Kenya compared to other nations and what our economy can afford," Mutua noted.
The politician has criticized Kenyan leaders saying that they take home a lot of money yet they are called servants.
"I am willing to get my salary reduced to match the economy so that we have more money going to the development_which is why our youth want," he said
The governor who's as declared his interest to vie for presidency come 2022 has urged the MPs to read the mood of the country.
"The timing is wrong. We cannot afford as a country to raise salaries of workers and so raising salaries of leaders is an affront to hardworking wananchi who are our voters," he advised.
