Speaking during the burial of Mzee Paul Kibet Teigut who is the father to his aide Farouk Kibet, in Tapsagoi on Friday, Deputy President William Ruto said the government has reached into an agreement with China for Kenya's export.

"Recently, the government agreed with China for export of Tea, Coffee and Avocado, among other high value produce. This now means we have a market even as we move to full diversification," said Ruto.

“Diversification is the only way to earn from agriculture and is inevitable. We must all diversify and stop politicking about this,” he added.

The Deputy President's concern was as a result of some elected leaders opposing Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago's call for diversification, in debates that seem to be taking political twists.

Mandago has been sensitizing farmers on diversity in agriculture, especially considering that conditions in Uasin Gishu are favourable for the thriving of Coffee and Avocado.

"We are working on the issues of maize as a task force but it is important to note that we need to diversify and embrace more money yielding crops,” said the county boss.
