Police in Nandi County are pursuing an unknown number of gangsters who stormed Kamorwon Administration Police post on Tuesday night and stole firearms.

The police were reportedly watching UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match between Barcelona and Manchester United at the nearby market when the incident happened. 

All the cops on duty were nowhere to be found when the gang forced its way into the police station at around 9.30 p.m. before making away with three firearms and 60 rounds of ammunition from the station. 

The officers on duty returned to their work station past midnight only to discover that the firearms and ammunition had been stolen.

Confirming the incident, Corporal Rodgers Masiwa said that investigations have been launched to arrest the suspects. 

He also assured the general public of their safety as they pursue the suspects. 

“Three rifles: G3 FMP 77095029, G3 FMP 7709443 and G3 A3 F91879 each with a magazine of 20 rounds of ammunition of 7.62mm [were found] missing, with 17 and 20 rounds [of ammunition] left behind,” read part of the report, as quoted by Citizen’s eDaily.

The incident comes at a time when police in Nandi have put gangs operating in different areas on notice following an increase in crime incidents in the county.
