Even as detectives insist that embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado was at Kodera forest when his girlfriend Sharon Otieno died, the county boss has persistently refuted the claims.
Phone call data indicates that Obado's phone was at Homa Bay, although in his statement, he insists that he was in Nairobi.
In his statement, Obado says that he held a series of meetings on September 3rd in Nairobi, the same day Sharon was reportedly killed by kidnappers.
"I met Evans Ondieki at Lavington Mall and we had lunch after arriving in the city.
"After that, I drove to Karen where I help a meeting with Her Excellency Ida Odinga. I was neither at Homa Bay nor did I kill the deceased," he explains in his statement at DCI.
Both Ida Odinga and Mr. Obado come from Migori and were in teaching profession when quitting to pursue other interests.
And his statement almost corroborates that of an ODM insider who claimed that Obado had secretly visited Mrs. Odinga.
In the meeting, the insider said, Mr. Obado met Ida to plead with her to ask Raila Odinga to intervene on the murder case.
"He was at Karen and pleased with Ida to ask authorities to go slow on him. Raila however refused," said the insider.
Mr. Obado will know his bail application on October 8th, the same day when his constituents will be electing a new senator.
