Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen can now breath a sigh of relief after surviving ouster as Rift Valley Parliamentary Group chairman on Wednesday.
In a meeting that lasted for three hours at Weston Hotel, MPs allied to his camp defended the Elgeyo-Marakwet senator's recent 'attack's on Jubilee leadership.
Oscar Sudi (Kapsaret), Samson Cherargei (Nandi) and Aldai's Cornelly Serem overpowered a team led by Cherangany's Joshua Kutuny that had called for Murkomen's ouster.
"It was a very tense meeting and both factions defended their positions. Murkomen's supporters maintained that he had a right to speak his mind," said a source who spoke in confidence.
He added: "In the end, Kutuny dropped the idea to have Murkomen kicked out after realising that majority of those backing the idea were absent."
After the meeting, Murkomen insisted that he supports both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto adding that his positions cannot however deny him opportunity to speak his mind.
"There is no discord in Jubilee. The handshake has not ruined anything but as MPs, we also have a right to speak our minds," he stated.
It is also said that Ruto attended the meeting for few hours before excusing himself after heated debate over his future.
