Deputy President William Ruto knows the Mt Kenya vote basket will be so crucial come 2022.
The DP, being the political genius he is, has been on a charm offensive in the region in a strategy to ensure he is a foot in front of his opponents.
However, though the DP has won the hearts of several leaders in the region, two MPs have remained a thorn in his movement.
The two are hell-bent to ensure they puncture his penetration of the vote-rich region.
The two, Kangema MP Muturi Kigano and his Nyeri Town counterpart Ngunjiri Wambugu, have been opposing Ruto’s moves terming the early campaigns.
The legislators have been linked to an anti-Ruto movement dubbed Kieleweke.
Kigano said Ruto should stop moving around and hit out at those who accompany him urging the region to back the DP in 2022.
“Everybody in our area is enlightened and knows how to choose. I am not saying Ruto should not be elected. I am not opposing Ruto’s ambitions but the early campaign,” Kigano said.
A similar position has been taken by Ngunjiri who claims Ruto’s ‘early campaigns’ are a threat to stability.
“The 2022 politics divides Kenyans at a time they don’t need to be divided for a reason that’s not relevant. Even if you have the majority supporting you now, what do you do with that support as there’s no vote being taken?” Ngunjiri said
