According to the deceased's mother, Nancy Ogechi, she left the girl at home alone and went to buy salt.

"I didn't find her when I returned from the shop. I searched for her everywhere in the house in vain before I decided to notify neighbours," she said.

Ogechi said after informing neighbours, a search was launched in the bushy sugarcane plantation.

"Her body was found in the sugarcane plantation one hour after she was reported missing," she noted.

Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi condemned the incident saying the minor didn't deserve to be murdered.

He said the body of the deceased had visible marks on her neck an indication that she was strangled to death before being dumped in the plantation.

"Detectives are on the ground probing the murder and I can assure members of the public that the person who murdered the minor will be brought to book," said Kigochi.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
