Nurses across the country are expected not to report to work starting Monday after failing to reach an agreement over their allowances.
Kenya National Union of Nurses General Secretary Seth Panyako on Saturday announced that the medics have no choice but to put down their tools following the failure of their agreement to be honored.
The strike will not affect Mombasa, Migori and Machakos counties because nurses in these regions have received their allowances as stipulated earlier on.
On November 2, 2017, the national and county governments reached an agreement that saw nurses awarded allowances for services and uniforms but some of them are yet to benefit from the same, reports Daily Nation.
Panyako said that the government only had only Sunday to avert the strike or else they will not report to work.
The go slow is expected to affect Nairobi, Kisii, Taita-Taveta, Wajir, NyeriWest Pokot, Kisumu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyandarua, Trans Nzoia, and Kitui if the agreement is not honored.
On February 6, nurses in Kiambu, Homa Bay and Marsabit will follow suit. The union also said that the nurses from Kirinyaga, Embu Kwale, Garissa and Samburu will join their counterparts on February.
The nurses from Siaya, Nakuru, Busia and Murang’a are expected not to report to work on February 18. In the meantime nurses from Mandera, Tharaka Nithi and Vihiga suspended the strike while rest of the counties are yet to reach an agreement with their respective government.
