West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo was recently on the spotlight after viciously hitting out at a youthful politician who has repeatedly criticised his leadership.
The issue gained national attention, thanks to Lonyangapuo's description of the young man who was unknown in the beginning, after describing him as a 'round burly young man'.
He added that the man's body shape is as round as a ball, and had no job except troubling him and his leadership, before giving him the Pokot nickname 'Mulmulwas' meaning a circular, edgeless thing.
"Kijana fupi amenona na ni round. Huwezi jua tumbo ni wapi na mgongo no wapi. Hana kazi, Mulmulwas (He is short, fat and round, you can't differentiate his stomach from his back and he is jobless. He is a Mulmulwas)," said the county boss.
However, it has been established that he was referring to politician Dennis Ruto, who doubles up as an activist, and who vied for a ward representative seat in the county on a Kanu ticket in 2017.
Asked about his take on the jibe, Ruto said that he simply laughed off the description after his friends confirmed that they can actually distinguish his back from his stomach.
He added that he is not offended by the body shaming, though it's actually a criminal offence.
"At first I felt bad because that's body shaming and is criminal but I later laughed it off after people told me that they can actually differentiate my stomach from my back," he said in an interview with the Nation on Friday.
He added that he has since turned the Mummulwas narrative into an evolution which he seeks to use to unseat Lonyagapuo in the 2022 polls.
