The veteran football commentator died on Saturday after several years of struggling with chronic diabetes. He was Citizen Radio content producer at the time of his death.

Mr Machoka, who worked with Njuguna at Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation before reuniting at Royal Media, said he will 'truly miss him'.

"Rest in peace my friend, big brother and mentor #MohammedJumaNjuguna. I shall truly miss you," tweeted Obachi.

The Roga Roga Show host and Njuguna are among the pioneers of Citizen Radio and are respected by SK Macharia's team.

Gusii based Shabana FC, which also enjoyed Njuguna's commentary in 90s, also mourned his death. The National Super League side described him as the best commentator.

"Besides his commitment, reliability and dedication to work, he was also one of the most original broadcasters the country has ever had, R.I.P Mohammed Juma Njuguna," the club said.

Due to his Islamic religion, Njuguna could be buried on Saturday. The family is yet to give details about the funeral plans.
