Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has called for the arrest of embattled Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula following his alleged involvement in the fake gold scandal.
The Senator has been adversely mentioned in the scam where United Arab Emirates (UAE) ruler Sheikh Mohammed Al-Makhtoum was conned Sh400 million.
In a leaked phone conversation circulating on social media, a man who is believed to be Wetang'ula is captured assuring a Dubai-based gold dealer, that he will do everything to ensure his gold consignment reaches him.
He alleges the cargo had been confiscated by authorities at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, but notes top politicians are following up on the matter to ensure it is released.
He invokes the name of President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as people involved in securing release of the consignment.
“I am a hundred per cent sure there is no problem and tell Sheikh not to panic. We are finishing this matter and we will come and toast together,” the man assures the Dubai-based dealer.
Kabogo asked the President to arrest the Senator, and also recommended he be taken to Dubai to answer why he conned the royal family.
"Mr. President His Exellency Uhuru Kenyatta, this guy Weta must be arrested and charged accordingly. Then sent to the UAE to face the Sheikh. Atajua hajui," he wrote on his Facebook page, Saturday.
