Two female traders in Nyamusi, Nyamira County shocked customers after they exchanged blows over a disagreement emanating from their tomato-selling business.
The incident happened on Sunday at Nyamusi shopping center in Nyamira County.
Witnesses said the vendors, Margaret Ondoro and Judy Obwocha engaged in a fist fight over a customer who came to buy tomatoes.
“Mrs. Ondoro was attending to her customer when Judy interrupted and claimed that Mrs. Ondoro’s tomatoes were spoilt and could not make a good soup. Ondoro descended on her with kicks and blows,” said Alice Nyanchera who witnessed the incident.
Nyanchera said the fight lasted for 10 minutes before the two were separated by fellow traders.
The market administrator, Elvis Mokandu condemned the incident saying the two will not be allowed to sell in the market for the next 1 month.
“None of them sold to the customer because he left without buying after a fight started. We managed to stop them from fighting and agreed as the market management to suspend them from the market for the next 1 month,” he said.
Mokandu said traders who will be found fighting will be expelled from the market.
He said traders should embrace peace and unity as they continue with their daily businesses at the market.
