This is after it emerged that the hospital is in a pathetic condition.

A report by the Kiambu County Assembly Health Committee tabled on the House by recently elected Majority Leader Gideon Gachara revealed that the hospital is in the worst condition as there are inadequate facilities.

Nyathuna MCA Edward Kinyanjui who chairs the health committee noted that after an impromptu visit to the hospital, they found out that sick children were sharing beds with adults in the poorly ventilated female wards. It was also revealed that the maternity wing which handles around 120 normal deliveries and between 20 to 30 caesarean sections monthly only had 12 beds with less staff.

The report which was quoted by Daily Nation further unleashed the horrible state of the maternity wing which has only one toilet expected to serve the patients and laundry department which lacks washing machines for use.

The laboratory in the hospital is also understaffed with four staff working for 24 hours without a biochemistry machine and an operator for their work.

The hospital, the report says, has a loan of Sh6 million which was blamed for the low supply of drugs from Kenya Medical Supplies Sency (Kemsa).

“The procurement officer (at the hospital) reported that the existing Kemsa debt partially contributed to low supply of drugs and therefore they had to procure drugs and non-pharmaceuticals on loans. They currently have a loan of Sh6 million,” reads part of the report as quoted by Daily Nation

Kiambu County Health Executive Mary Kamau is expected to be summoned by the County Assembly due to deteriorating management of nearly all county hospitals.
