Kalonzo has, however, not been lucky to ascend to power despite making several attempts.

The next general elections will either make or break the Wiper leader.

The Ukambani political kingpin cannot afford to make a slight mistake when that time comes.

Here are 5 forces Kalonzo must overcome to rise to the presidency in 2022 polls:

1. DP Ruto factor

Deputy President William Ruto remains Kalonzo’s greatest threat to power. Ruto has maintained that he will be on the ballot in 2022 elections. Kalonzo will have to go an extra mile in order to beat Ruto when that time comes.

2. Governor Mutua factor

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has also hinted at contesting for the presidency. Kalonzo and Mutua will share votes if both of them will be on the ballot in 2022. The duo is influential in the region and their moves will determine the next president.

3. Moi factor

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is among the potential presidents of this nation. Kalonzo must know how he will play his cards to outdo Moi if his word is anything to go by. Kalonzo will lose terribly if he doesn’t manage to beat Ruto.

4. Uhuru-Raila bromance

There are speculations that Uhuru could endorse Raila for the presidency. Kalonzo’s presidential dream will be dealt a major blow if this happens. The combination of Uhuru and Raila will give Kalonzo sleepless nights.

5. Joho factor

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is another powerful leader who could be on the ballot in 2022. Kalonzo will forget Coast votes if Joho happens to contest. Joho will no doubt deny Kalonzo victory in the Coast region if they are on different sides with him.
