Political analyst Javas Bigambo now argues that former Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe's opposition to Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 bid holds no water.

Murathe who resigned on Sunday has noted that he will move to the Supreme Court to stop the DP's intended candidature, terming it illegal as per the constitution.

But according to Bigambo, Murathe's argument that Ruto will have served his two presidential terms in 2022 doesn't make sense because he does not hold the president's position.

He added that Ruto was never voted for in the elections, and was simply a running mate who cannot be considered as a President.

"No one voted for Ruto, they only voted for President Uhuru Kenyatta. As much as they came to power on a joint ticket, its Uhuru who holds the presidency and not Ruto and therefore, nothing stops him (Ruto) from vying," he said.

He was speaking in an interview with Radio Maisha's Bunge la Maisha, on Monday morning.

He added that Kenya being a Commonwealth member, there is absolutely no way Murathe can stop Ruto, judging by similar cases in the past.

"We are under the Commonwealth jurisprudence, and we have seen in others places like the United States Vice Presidents completing their term and then vying for the presidency, Ruto is not any different," he added.

But according to Murathe, Ruto will have contravened the law as his turn and that of Uhuru run concurrently.
