More than 150 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates from a private school in Malindi were left stranded for about six hours during the morning Chemistry practical exam.
They were stranded due to lack of practical equipment at the school.
As the school administration was wandering to find the equipment, the students from Brightways secondary school had to be ferried under tight security to Barani secondary school, a nearby public school after the intervention of Malindi Sub-county Education Officer.
The crisis led police officers from Malindi police station to arrive at the school and arrest two directors of the school, Ibrahim Komora and Oscar Mirembe.
According to reports by detectives from Malindi Directorate of Criminal Investigation, the school had no electricity, neither were gas and chemicals required for the exam practicals.
One student said, “The school had not done enough preparations for the national exams.”
Malindi Sub-county DEO Veronica Kalungu declined to address the press over the matter.
