Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has called for electoral reforms and restructuring of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the 2022 polls.
Mutua wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to include electoral reforms and justice in his legacy agenda.
Speaking on Qwetu FM on Friday, the Machakos Governor said that electoral reforms and justice is what will aid reconciliation and unity process.
He said that the polls agency needs serious surgery and restructuring before 2022 general election.
"President Kenyatta should also push for electoral reforms as part of his legacy agenda," he said.
Governor Mutua noted that as it is now, Kenyans have no faith in the electoral agency.
He said that the events of 2017 general elections must be revisited and the electoral body reformed before the much anticipated 2022 polls.
The Machakos Governor added that his fears are that the 2022 polls might not be fair and transparent.
He, however, said that he is ready and will not fear anyone as he launches his presidential bid soon.
Opposition leaders have been pushing for electoral reforms at the polls agency.
The opposition says that IEBC cannot be trusted to conduct a general election given the events that transpired last year.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga says that electoral reforms is part of the building bridges initiative and the handshake he made with President Kenyatta on March 9.
