With the raging debate over the country’s ballooning wage big and debt burden, a Member of Parliament is now proposing several measures that will help ensure there are sufficient funds for development projects that benefit mwananchi.
According to Soy MP Caleb Kositany, there is a need for the scrapping of some of the elective positions in the country.
Speaking in his constituency on Saturday, Kositany said the Senate and the Woman Representative post should be scraped in a bid to save more cash for development.
“The position for the 47 Senators should be scrapped because we do not need the Senate, same to the 47 Woman Rep positions,” said the Jubilee MP.
The first-time legislator further proposed that the number of Members of Parliament also be reduced the same to the number of counties.
Currently, there are 47 devolved units and 290 MPs.
Kositany, however, said budgetary allocation for key projects that benefit mwanachi should not be slashed but instead look at those that have no direct impact to the livelihoods of kenyans.
“We need to look at the Big Four Agenda and if there is any that is using a lot of money we reduce it but in my opinion, the Constituency Development Fund should not be reduced because this is the only fund that has a direct development impact to Kenyans,” he said.
