As a measure of security concern and crime control, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has moved to ensure the safety of lives and property of his constituents through the lighting of the streets.
A crime control mechanism is a neighbourhood watch which is contributed by light.
In a post on his Facebook page, Owino expressed delight in the step he made in securing the community within his constituency.
"We kicked off the installation of high mast security lights today at Vumilia slums in upper savanna ward Embakasi East. This is the first of four such lights which will be installed in different wards with a view to curbing insecurity in the area," reads part of his post on Facebook.
Owino said the initiative will curb criminal elements within the constituency "while allowing ordinary wananchi the opportunity to peacefully go about their lives".
He, however, urged the residents to be alert and open in whistleblowing any suspicious individuals who may pose a threat to the community.
The youthful legislator also expressed his commitment to working with the community and local security agencies so as "to make Embakasi East a twenty-four-hour economy where people can safely transact business and day to day activities without fear of petty crime."
