Addressing journalists on Monday in Eldoret town after holding a brief meeting with farmers from the area, Tiren said it is high time Kiunjuri vacated the seat to pave way for other leaders who can effectively deliver on their mandate.

The vocal MP claimed that Kiunjuri has failed farmers, adding that the CS should have ensured payment of delivered maize and facilitated the purchase of more produce.

The lawmaker further noted that the release of farmers' payments on time would enable them to purchase commercial fertiliser following the government's announcement that there will be no subsidised fertiliser this year.

"If funds for maize farmers have not been released, then what is Kiunjuri's work? As leaders, we think he has failed in his work and should resign and give the chance to other able people," he said.

Tiren also accused the government of planning to import maize from abroad at double the price that is currently been paid to local farmers.

He criticised the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led administration for importing maize from Mexico last year, noting that the move negatively affected farmers in the country.

"In the next six months or so, you will see maize being imported from abroad and Kiunjuri ensuring it is delivered and paid for in almost double the price our local farmers get," added the MP.

The MP called on President Uhuru to fire non-performing cabinet secretaries.
