Since the ban on holiday tuition a few years ago by the then Education CS Fred Matiang'i, parents, especially in Thika, have turned to various alternatives to ensure that their children stay abreast with school work during holidays.

Some of these alternatives include hiring teachers to coach their children at home, so the teacher has to report there every morning.

And this is where the bone of contention is, in this whole thing about home-based private tuition.

According to one Thika man who spoke in an exclusive interview on Wednesday on condition of anonymity, his wife who is a teacher at a prestigious private school in the same town, is already warming up to one of her tutee's father who is a divorcee.

"My wife is behaving weirdly nowadays since she started going out for the so-called home private tuition two weeks ago. The other day I saw a love message on her phone from the kid's father and realised that something is not going on well," said the man, who operates a small shop in Makongeni Estate.

He adds that after confronting the wife, she trashed the notion that there was anything going on between her and the tutee's father.

The man's attempt to stop the wife from going out on tutoring jobs has not yielded fruit so far. He, however, has vowed to push to put to an end what he termed as 'adulterous expeditions disguised as home-based private tuition'.

"I will not sit back and watch my family of six go down in ruins in the name of my wife trying to make extra coin. The government ought to know about this sorry state of affairs," he added.
