Through the County Chief Executive Officer of Sports Achie Ojany Alai, Kisumu County government has set aside Sh100 million to uplift the standards of Moi Stadium.

The stadium has been lagging behind due to several reasons including; lack of changing rooms, stands, and media centers.

“Our facilities are poor and we acknowledge. The pitch at Moi is awful and ugly, that is why we have set aside sh.100 million to start the refurbishment of the stadium,” Achie Alai said.

Kisumu county deputy governor Mathews Owili who was present during the Gor Mahia coronation at Moi stadium Kisumu said that the lakeside city is surrounded by immense sporting talents, however, lack good sporting facilities to help in nurturing talents.

“The issue of facilities is a big problem. This region is teeming with talents but it is not developing for lack of structures. We will develop the facility and we are putting in place the necessary structures,” he said.

Both Dr. Mathews Owili and Achie Alai were present during the match between Gor Mahia and Mathare staged at Moi Stadium on Sunday.

Gor Mahia patron Raila Odinga, Ambrose Rachier (Gor chair) and former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma among other top guest were also there to witness Gor Mahia lifting Kenya Premier League trophy for the 17th time.
