Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has cautioned national and county government officials who would use public resources to fund BBI meetings.
In a tweet on Saturday evening, Murkomen noted that the Parliament had never ratified the money to be spent during the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting that was held in Kisii county on Friday.
The vocal lawmaker further alleged that there were no satisfactory reasons as to why the county resources could have been used for the same purpose.
Murkomen who is also the Senate majority leader argued that officials who would plunder money meant for offering services or funding development projects would face extra charges when the budget would be introduced.
"Parliament didn’t approve any expenditure of public resources for Kisii BBI meeting neither is there any justification for use of county resources considering that BBI isn’t a devolved function. Any National or county government official who uses public resources will be surcharged," tweeted Murkomen.
On Friday, leaders led by the former prime minister Raila Odinga and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i held the first BBI consultative meeting in Kisii county.
The meeting which was the first of its kind, after the launch of the report, sought to gather views from Kenyans concerning what ought to be incorporated and what to do away with before being implemented.
