A top aide to Deputy President William Ruto admits that President Uhuru Kenyatta was not aware of DP's Saturday's trip to the installation of Bishop Philip Anyolo as Archbishop of Kisumu Archdiocese.
At the function, Ruto had to invite defense minister Reychelle Omamo to read President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech, something that has caused social media storm with some referring it to as a serious breach of protocol.
But the aide, who spoke in confidence, says the DP had not notified anyone about the trip and would not 'therefore tamper with State House arrangements'.
"Honestly it was an impromptu visit. He was only supposed to meet a delegation from Narok then attend a wedding in Nairobi. However, he changed his plans and that's normal. He couldn't interfere."
The protocol hitch came just in the middle of the ongoing succession battles in which Ruto's allies have been at loggerheads with State House operatives who are believed to be working under the instructions oh the president.
But Mr Silas Jakakimba, an aide in Raila Odinga's office, says that State House team would have adjusted the protocol when it realised Dr Ruto's presence.
"Serious breach of protocol, Snr. It is incumbent upon the Deputy President, while present in a function, to represent or rather read, the President's speech should the latter be absent. This notwithstanding the fact that State Hse might not have been aware about DP's attendance," he argued. https://twitter.com/OAmollo/status/1084090537974611969?s=19
Dr Ruto invited Ms Omamo to read the speech moments after he had been ushered to the podium by his main critic, Raila Odinga who only dwelled on church politics and Harambees.
