After the Commission for the University Education proposed that 133 despised courses offered in the universities be scrapped off after four years, students at Tom Mboya University College in Kisumu on Monday vowed to demonstrate against the move.
Through a memo to all students, the chairman of Students’ Organization for Tom Mboya University College Nyaga Gitonga warned the Commission for the University Education and the Ministry of Education to explain the details of their decision.
He added that resisting any classes in the college will be one of the tactics they will use to send a message to the CUE and the Education Ministry.
“I wish to appeal to all comrades that this is the high time to embrace comradeship and face the issue. We need to face reality and not gamble with our degree which is our future and we have spent so heavily on it. We have to move away from the era of regrets after fall. As all comrades have said, we shall not attend any class from today until the Commission for University Education and the ministry of education has explained to us the reality,” wrote Gitonga.
The college which is one of the constituents of Maseno University which is the most affected has 25 courses of the 133 that are to be scrapped off.
