Deputy President William Ruto has asked state officers linked and charged in court with graft to carry their own cross.
The DP says that culprits who have been named in graft scandals should stop blaming certain people for their woes.
Speaking in Garissa Town on Monday, DP Ruto said that the war against graft is not targeting a particular person or community.
He said that independent agencies and institutions mandated to fight corruption are doing their work independently.
The deputy president also asked politicians to stop politicising the ongoing war on corruption.
He said that the war against corruption will stall if elected leaders start politicising it.
“The fight against corruption is only targeting people who have squandered and misused taxpayer’s money,” he said.
The DP said that the national government will give more resources to agencies mandated to fight graft in order for them to be effective.
The war against graft has intensified and is part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy once his term ends in 2022.
However, a section of politicians has openly criticized the manner in which the fight against graft is being carried out.
Some of the politicians are now accusing the Director of Public Prosecution, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) of allegedly targeting individuals from a certain community in the name of fighting graft.
