This is after CeC Department of Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Taufiq Balala accompanied by the County Traffic Director Ibrahim Basafar held a consultative meeting with the National Police traffic officers, County traffic marshals and Disaster Management Response Team over the matter.

During the meeting at Diamond Jubilee Hall, all parties resolved to introduce a morning traffic clearance from Nyali and Kisauni/Bombolulu to Nyali Bridge from 8am.

The team disclosed it is finalising on the logistical issues raised for a faster implementation of the programme.

The move comes days after the department introduced Mombasa Traffic Happy Hour (from Thursday, February 21), that lasts for 5 minutes.

While targeting motorists coming from Mombasa Island to Nyali, the department with help of traffic officers and traffic marshals closes incoming lane to Town from BP Shell Links - Fidel Odinga Road all the way to Coast General Hospital junction.

This helps to lessen drastically the traffic jam once the happy hour is over as all 4 lanes will be available for a single direction traffic flow.

The County Government has since termed the exercise a success as the pilot project continues before being replicated in other routes within the city.

"We are thus far impressed with the happy hour and are working around the clock to improve our traffic flow by applying it in more areas," disclosed Balala.
