Detectives close to DCI George Kinoti have reportedly rejected a move to have their boss interrogating DP William Ruto over assassination saga, reports the Standard.
According to them, Dr Ruto may seize the opportunity to dress down the top detective over their past differences including the Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal.
Early this year, Dr Ruto accused the DCI of being used by certain forces to derail his 2022 presidential campaigns through persistent harassment on 'cooked' scandals.
With the DP insisting that he must be grilled by Kinoti over assassination plot that has seen four ministers implicated, detectives insist that the DCI should avoid the trap.
Already, Kinoti has assigned one Michael Sang to pursue the case. However, Ruto is said to have insisted that he must be grilled by the top detective.
“(Sang) was kept waiting for the better part of Monday afternoon in vain. We are still waiting for the way forward,” said an informed officer who asked not to be named.
On Monday, CS Peter Munya insisted that he will not record statements along with his colleagues until Dr Ruto makes an official complaint.
“The standard procedure is that if someone makes an allegation of that nature, he is required by law to record a statement. The deputy president has not recorded any statement,” Munya said on Monday.
“We have made it clear that at no time have we ever met anywhere – not just in La Mada, anywhere else – to plan to kill the deputy president or any other person for that matter,” Munya added.
Mr Kinoti had insisted that money was lost in Kimwarer and Arror dams, a claim which was rubbished by the DP. He insisted that the probe was politically motivated.
