A middle-aged drunk man surprised people in the streets of Eldoret town after yelling and singing forbidden Kalenjin circumcision songs that agitated members of the community who subsequently descended to him.
According to eyewitnesses who found themselves before the awkward scenario, the man who is a trader famously as known John Siro alias Matiba is a common figure in town and comes from the nearby estate.
“Matiba is a frequent drunkard normally found in town tipsy but today he went beyond to recite sacrosanct ceremony music that is not allowed to be sung in public,” Silas Bano said.
He noted that Kalenjin members in town could not sit and watch Matiba spill the beans but had to intervene and discipline him cacophonously.
The drunkard was beaten in blows and kicks by the raged crowd before being rescued by friends who pulled him out of the mob.
One of the Kalenjin elder, Arap Kandie, said that such unbecoming behaviours if found within a member of the community is condemned.
“We cannot tolerate those errand men exposing our traditions that are our heritage that gives our community distinct aspect and earn respect from other communities,” annoyed Kandie said.
