Homeboyz Radio has suspended one of its presenters over his remarks regarding the murder of Moi University student, Ivy Wangeci.
The presenter was suspended following his remarks during the Tuesday evening 'Mtaani' show that has caused an uproar among Kenyans.
The radio host heartlessly said that Ms Wangechi deserved to die because she was not loyal. Part of the remarks suggested that the slain student was not grateful to his boyfriend.
This elicited shock and disappointment among fans on social media who demanded swift action taken by the management. They argued that it was wrong to celebrate someone's death on air no matter what the circumstances were.
Following the public uproar on Twitter, Homeboyz Radio announced on Wednesday that it has suspended the radio presenter with immediate effect.
“Last night (Tuesday 9th April) on Homeboyz 1035 during the show Mtaani, one of our presenters made a comment regarding the recent killing of a Moi University student. After reviewing the show recording, we have found the comments made to be in extremely poor taste and apologize without reservation,” the station said in a statement.
The station's management has since apologised to its listeners and the general public, terming their employee's remarks as unfortunate.
'We once again apologize to our listeners and the wider community as a whole. We remain committed to providing cutting edge content without offence," the statement read in part.
