Opposition leader Raila Odinga has assured Deputy President William Ruto of his safety within the ruling Jubilee Party.
This comes only months after the DP accused Raila of trying to chase him out of the party founded by him (Ruto) and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But speaking in Mombasa on Monday, the former Prime Minister said that he has no plans to topple anyone from the bloc.
The Orange Democratic Movement party leader added that his closeness to President Uhuru Kenyatta should not be confused as his entry into the party.
“I have not joined Jubilee as some have claimed, meaning there is no way I can chase anyone from the party.
"I am only working with the government to create an effective system that can guarantee free and fair election and uplift the living standards of Kenyans,” Raila was quoted by the Standard.
He spoke when he accompanied Uhuru for the groundbreaking of the construction of the Mama Ngina Waterfront project in Mombasa.
He rubbished claims that he has hatched a plan to strangle the party as has been alleged by some members allied to the DP.
This is with the consideration that they are considered possible opponents in the 2022 presidential race.
Raila said that he will not engage in early politics, urging fellow politicians to follow suit.
“Let those engaged in early campaigns hold their horses. We should focus on development until 2022 when men and women will meet in the political ring,” he added.
