Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has revealed the advice he gave ODM's candidate, Chris Karan ahead of the just-concluded Ugenya parliamentary seat by-election.
Amollo said he had noted that the majority of residents were not rallying behind Karan and consequently he had urged the aspirant to throw in the towel.
"I personally advised Chris Karan not to contest in this Ugenya by-election (but he ignored)," he said in an exclusive interview with NTV on Tuesday.
The ODM candidate garnered 14, 567 votes to lose to David Ochieng of little-known Movement of Democracy and Growth (MDG) who registered 18,730 votes.
Karan's win in the August 8, 2017, general election was overturned by the High Court after Ochieng lodged an appeal citing that the campaigns ahead of the polls were perverted.
On the remarks made by ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Monday that Karan's loss was "not a big deal", Amollo shared similar sentiments saying Ugenya residents made their choice independently, and, therefore, Kenyans should let them be.
"When Raila says it is not a big deal, then that is the first answer. He (Raila) had no fundamental issue with either David Ochieng or Chis Karan. Let us not insult the voters of Ugenya, they made their choice," the MP stated.
