Deputy President William Ruto has always avoided the 2022 politics but his allies and political critics have never ceased to mention his name whenever anything to do with the coming general elections is mentioned.
Currently, the DP's camp is 'on fire' as a result of the battle between farmers from the North Rift and the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) as the major division has been witnessed among the Jubilee MPs from this region.
A section of the legislators who were once Ruto’s close confidants is claiming that he is one of the cartels in the maize scandals and should be investigated. However, another group holds that the claims are propaganda and the other leaders have been hired to campaign against the DP ahead of 2022.
Other national politicians who are Ruto's critics have made it clear that he is unfit to be the president.
But speaking in Narok county on Wednesday, Ruto said it was not yet time for politics.
He asked those speaking of 2022 politics to cease and first focus on development that would benefit mwananchi.
“2022 is still far. This is the time to work for the nation through development projects. The issues that are there right now are not about politics, political parties or politicians. The issues present are about development,” Ruto said.
