Mandera Governor Ali Roba has asked the government to guarantee the security of students ahead of the commencement of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) next month.
Roba wants more security deployed to schools to ensure the smooth running of national examinations.
Speaking in Mandera town on Wednesday, the Jubilee governor said that there is fear among teachers and students in North Eastern.
“The government through relevant agencies especially the Ministry of Interior and Defense must deploy adequate security in all public and private schools before the start of the national examination,” he said.
Roba said the government has a duty to ensure the safety of residents and other Kenyans.
He alleged that terror militants could be planning to disrupt the national examinations.
Roba further claimed that terror groups are using religion to create rifts among Kenyans in North Eastern.
National exams (KCSE and KCPE) are set to begin next month and teachers in Northern Kenya have been raising concerns over their security.
On Wednesday morning, suspected Al-Shabaab militants stormed Arabia Boys High school and killed two non-local teachers.
The militants also set ablaze several classrooms before disappearing.
According to North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamed Birik, the search for the militants is on.
