Vocal Garissa politician, who stormed Hagadera police station on Friday morning, has refuted claims that he released suspects from police cells.
Hagadera MP Abdikarim Osman Mohamed said his mid-morning entry into the station was just to seek clarification on allegations of police harassment by his constituents.
Issuing a statement on his official Facebook page, MP Abdikarim disputed reports circulating in social media that he slapped an officer and released prisoners from police cells.
"Contrary to sensational social media reports that I allegedly stormed a police station in Hagadera and released prisoners, I wish to set the record straight and refute those claims. Following complaints of police harassment by my constituents in Hagadera, I visited the police station and met the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and discussed with him the grievances of the community. I later addressed a rally outside the police station where I asked the community to remain peaceful and give credence to due processes," stated Abdikarim.
The MP's visit to the Hagadera police station follows widespread outcry by residents who have since accused the local police officers of extortion and harassment.
